Dignity Health to Pay $570K to Settle Disability Discrimination Lawsuit

According to The Sacramento Bee, Dignity Health has been ordered to pay $570,000 to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit filed by a former food service technician, Alina Sorling, against Mercy Medical Center (“Mercy Medical”) in Redding, California. Sorling, who had worked as a food service technician for 10 years at Mercy Medical, suffered a severe illness that resulted in vision loss. Mercy Medical terminated her employment in June 2015, allegedly because of a vision requirement (that Mercy Medical had never tested Sorling for during her 10 years of employment).
